My First Book Club

My First Book Club

Launched in 2019, My First Book Club supports at-risk preschool students by improving literacy skills, promoting peer interaction, and fostering a love of reading. Students receive a new book each month for classroom and home reading, along with a small bookshelf to build their first personal library. For many children, these are the first new books they have ever owned.

Working alongside their teachers, students set individual and group reading goals, engage in discussions with peers, and build confidence in public speaking and collaboration.

For nearly two decades, W.C. Taylor High School stood as a pillar of education, resilience, and community for Black students across Fauquier County. Built in 1952 and named in honor of esteemed educator William C. Taylor, the school provided a rigorous academic experience, a vibrant arts and music program, and a deep sense of belonging for its students—despite the challenges of segregation.

Today, the Taylor Legacy Commission, a partnership project between the Taylor Historical Society and the Fauquier Education Foundation, is connecting with Fauquier’s students and teachers, local businesses, and community members to support efforts to preserve this history and honor the students, administrators, teachers, and families who made Taylor more than just a school—it was a community. Plans include a commemorative statue, dedicated benches, and a memorial wall inscribed with the names of alumni and supporters.

Join us in ensuring that Taylor’s legacy endures for future generations. Your donation will help bring this vision to life and recognize the lasting impact of Taylor High School.

A long-standing tradition in our community, the New Teacher Dinner is held shortly before the new school year starts to welcome and celebrate new educators in Fauquier County Public Schools. This event brings together schools, teachers, administrators, central office staff, and the business community to support and encourage incoming FCPS staff as they begin their journey within the school division.
